The Purported Wonders of Failure
OK, for the last several years, I have been hearing about the wonders of failure, and how it is the greatest thing in the world, because you learn so doggone much from it. It’s in the business literature, the marketing publications, blah blah blah.
You know what? Success teaches you a hell of a lot too. I just wanted to mention that. Because if I am going to learn a bunch of stuff, I would just as soon conceptualize as skillfully as I can, implement as intentionally as I can, and succeed, and learn along the way how I might have done even better. Maybe that’s just me. I would rather succeed. In fact, that is pretty much my plan. Feel free to fail over and over if you want, but…
I don’t really need a smash-my-face-in-the-sidewalk failure to learn how to do things better. I think that point of view is being over-sold just a tad.
