Principle of Attraction: OK, It’s extremely interesting, extremely powerful, and wildly misunderstood.
OK, so here is a distilled version, the way I have come to understand it. And maybe this version is just for me, who knows. Let me know your thoughts.
There are things you want in life, or think you want in life.
Ultimately, whether you think about it this way or not, you want them because you believe that you would feel better in the having of them.
That all makes sense. You are right. If you had them, you might feel the way you think you would feel.
But…What you may not know…..You can go for those feelings WITHOUT having the thing you think would bring those feelings to you. (More than one way to skin a cat, as they used to say…)
In fact, kind of paradoxically, getting to that feeling place in the absence of the thing that you think would bring those feelings into your experience, 1) makes the magical “thing” or event unnecessary, since you ALREADY have the feelings you were looking for, and 2) makes it weirdly more likely that the thing you wanted can show up in your experience, since, really, you don’t need it anymore.
The shiny red sports car, or the place at St. Pete Beach, do not themselves bring the feelings of adventure, or freedom–those come from inside you, and you allow the shiny red sports car and the beach house become the symbol of those. But you don’t need the car, and that is where we can get tripped up. The ability to feel what you want to feel resides in you. Every Psychological and Spiritual lineage gets this.
Shakespeare “got” this, and we should too.
Go wrap your head around that one…..
I am working on it…
